Consecutive exotropia following surgically corrected cyclic esotropia.
INTRODUCTION Cyclic esotropia is a rare form of strabismus consisting of regular intervals of esotropia alternating with periods of orthophoria in a rhythmic/cyclic manner. In the vast majority of cases, surgery appears to permanently correct the esotropia, with no sequelae after years of follow-up. We report a case of consecutive exotropia in a patient five years after bilateral medial rectus ...
متن کاملDissociated horizontal deviation: clinical spectrum, pathogenesis, evolutionary underpinnings, diagnosis, treatment, and potential role in the development of infantile esotropia (an American Ophthalmological Society thesis).
PURPOSE To elucidate the pathophysiology of dissociated horizontal deviation. METHODS The reversed fixation test was performed prospectively in 28 patients who developed consecutive exotropia following horizontal extraocular muscle surgery for infantile esotropia. All patients were assessed for the presence of adduction weakness, latent nystagmus, dissociated vertical divergence, and neurolog...
متن کاملConsecutive exotropia following surgery.
We studied 250 patients with consecutive exotropia. The interval between the surgical procedure and the onset of the consecutive exotropia may take many years. Consecutive exotropia occurred with all types of corrective esotropia surgery that we studied. Amblyopia and medial rectus limitation postoperatively seemed to be common factors associated with consecutive exotropia.
متن کاملIs initial overcorrection after surgical correction for intermittent exotropia necessary?
Many pediatric ophthalmologists have been trained with the strategy that an initial postoperative esotropia of 10 to 20 prism diopters following surgical correction for intermittent exotropia is a desirable initial outcome. This recommendation was suggested to apparently reduce the possibility of subsequent recurrence of exotropia. However, pediatric ophthalmologists who do unilateral recession...
متن کاملReduction of Consecutive Esotropia Using Modified Contralateral Recession and Resection for Recurrent Intermittent Exotropia.
PURPOSE To report consecutive esotropia in contralateral lateral rectus recession and medial rectus resection for recurrent intermittent exotropia after unilateral lateral rectus recession and medial rectus resection and to evaluate the surgical outcome of modified contralateral lateral rectus recession and medial rectus resection for exotropia after unilateral lateral rectus recession and medi...
